nct 127 is the korean subunit of nct, consisting of 9 active members and is a fixed unit. the name 127 comes from both the longitude of seoul, south korea, where they are based as well as the way members were added to the group itself. they debuted with seven members on july tenth, 2016 with their first ep, nct#127 and their lead single, firetruck.

in december of 2016, two new members were added to 127, johnny and doyoung. on january fifth 2017, nct 127 released their second EP, limitless along with their lead single of the same name. later that year on june fourteenth, they released their third EP, cherry bomb and their lead single, cherry bomb, of which they got their first music show win with.

along with nct dream and nct u, 127 promoted as nct 2018 for the first quarter of 2018. on march thirteenth, nct 127 released their new single touch, which is on the empathy nct 2018 album.

on october twelfth, nct 127 released their first full-length album, regular-irregular and lead single regular which has a english version as well as a korean version. regular-irregular debuted at 86 on the US billboard charts. a month later on november twenty-third, they released their repackage of regular-irregular, regulate, along with the new single, simon says. this comeback also marked the debut of the final nct 127 member, jungwoo, who was also previously in nct u from this comeback onwards, nct 127 have had many american tv show appearances, preforming on shows that are household staples, like jimmy kimmel live and the james corden show.
from this comeback onward, previous 127 member winwin, hasn't been participating in 127 promotions because of wayv's promotions. this situation has been going on for over a year so there is much spectuation about whether winwin is truly still in 127 or not.

in january of 2019, nct 127 announced their first world tour, neo city - the origin with forty-two tour dates in korea, japan, north america, latin america and europe. this tour took place over seven months, from january to july.

in february of 2019, nct 127 collaborated with jason derulo and lay zhang with the single shut up and dance. next month nct 127 would release their first studio japanese album, awaken, with the lead single, wakey wakey during their north american leg of their tour, they preformed on good morning america, being the third kpop act to do so.

on may twenty-fourth, nct 127 released their fourth EP, we are superhuman, along with the title track, superhuman. we are superhuman debuted at eleven on the billboard 200 as well as debuting first on the billboard world charts, making it their second album to do so. in july they released their second single from the EP, an english version of their b-side, highway to heaven. in august 2019, jungwoo left the groups promotions for undisclosed health reasons and didn't join the group again until february 2020. with this comeback 127 acheived many things, such as being the first korean act to preform at the macy's thanksgiving parade.
for this comeback, nct 127 released a series of mv-minis promoting each of their b-sides for their new full-length album, neo zone. on march sixth, neo zone was released, along with the lead single, kick it. this comeback obtained over 530,000 preorders worldwide and is regarded as one of 127's most successful comebacks to date.

on april 7th, it was announced that nct 127 would have a repackage of their album neo zone, with neo zone: the final round. this repackage was released on may 19th, 2020 with the title track, punch. during this time period, due to the coronavirus outbreak, nct 127 as well as wayv, superm and nct dream all had online concerts on their vlive channels.
nct dream are regarded to be the "boy-ish" teenage subunit focused around a sense of youth and mainly aimed at teens. this sub-unit holds the younger members of nct, and members of nct dream "graduate" once they turn twenty.

nct dream were the last subunit to debut in 2016, debuting on august twenty-fifth, 2016. they debuted with seven members the single, chewing gum and the mv, chewing gum. after this comeback, jaemin was unable to promote with dream due to complications with a herniated disc, and he didnt promote with nct dream again until empathy era.

on february first, 2017, nct dream released their first single album, the first, with the lead single my first and last. the album debuted at number one on the gaon charts my first and last was also nct's first music show win as a whole, getting first on sbs's the show. in march of 2017, nct dream released trigger the fever, as offical ambassadors for the 2017 FIFA U-20 world cup korea.

nct dream released their first EP, we young with lead single of the same name on august seventeenth. during this EP's promotion, two dream members, mark and haechan got into a fight lasting the course of several months. this fight went so far as to change the choreography for their stages so mark and haechan wouldn't have to touch one another.

along with nct 127 and nct u, dream promoted as nct 2018 for the first quarter of 2018. on march fourth, nct dream released their new single go, which is on the empathy nct 2018 album. this was the first comeback with jaemin since debut.
on august twenty-seventh, it was announced that nct dream's lastest comeback in the making, we go up, would be the last comeback with mark and he would be graduating at the end of the comebacks promotions. The EP itself was released on september third with a lead single of the same name. the EP entered billboard world charts at fifth and is one of dream's best sales to date. all seven members were listed on times 25 most influential teens 2018 as well as being on billboards 21 under 21: music's next generation for two years in a row. on december thirty-first, mark offically graduated from nct dream.
on june sixth, nct dream released a collabrative single with english singer, HRVY, called don't need your love. on july twenty-sixth, nct dream released their third EP, we boom, with the lead single boom, making it their first comeback without mark. in november, nct dream began their first concert tour, the dream show. the dream show has dates in korea and south-east asia.

on april 14 it was announced that nct dream's graduation concept will be scrapped for a rotational concept similar to nct u, with all seven original members of nct dream as well as the release of their fourth ep, reload. on april 29th, nct dream released the ep, and the title track, ridin'. the song reached first on melon, being one of the only boy group singles to rest that position. during this time period, due to the coronavirus outbreak, nct dream as well as wayv, nct 127 and superm all had online concerts on their vlive channels.
nct u is very different from the other subunits in nct, as it is a rotational group and changes lineups depending on the concept of the song itself. nct u debuted on april ninth, making it the first nct subunit to debut. they debuted with a single, the seventh sense, and the mv. the lineup had five members, taeyong, doyoung, jaehyun, ten, and mark. the day after on april tenth, nct u released two versions of their single without you, sung in both korean and chinese. the korean version was sung by taeil, jaehyun, and doyoung, while the chinese version was sung by smrookies kun.
in january of 2018, jaehyun, doyoung, and taeil released the single timeless as a part of a smstation.

on march fourteenth, nct released nct 2018 empathy, which had fourteen tracks, nine of which were from nct u. the second track on the album is boss, arguably the most popular nct song and the first mv to reach 100 million views. this song had seven members participating, taeyong doyoung, jaehyun, winwin, and mark along with the addition of two new nct members, jungwoo and lucas.
on december thirteenth, nct u released coming home as a part of sm station x. this song consisted of jaehyun, doyoung, taeil, as well as the nct u debut of haechan.
the third track on the album is a duet song between taeyong and ten called baby dont stop.

the sixth track on the album is called yestoday and its lineup consisted of doyoung, taeyong, mark, and new nct member lucas.

the seventh track on the album is the only nct song with all current members featured, black on black features every nct member that had debuted till then, including previous smrookies kun. the tracks not mentioned are either released by other units, songs by nct u that had been re-released in the album, or solo songs.
